The Quest for Alexander Platz

Contrary to popular belief, life as a student in Rome can be mundane during the week (class, homework, gelato repeat). After one of these weeks wrapped up on Thursday, we decided to try our luck in finding a Jazz Club. Some of us are quite tired of the usual American bar, but not quite sure where to go from there. Drew knew I was interested in jazz and the quest began. Derek, Drew, Megan and I got dressed up and departed for Alexander Platz, the oldest Jazz Club in Rome. It sounded perfect: great music, cheap cover charge, chill atmosphere. So Drew captained our journey. It was when we transfered to the A Metro line that things got a bit messy. For some reason the line was closed, so we had to go by bus. Unfortunately, We hadn't figured out how to get to the club from the bus stop. Drew asked for directions, then asked again, and again....

One of our many direction givers.

Finally, after lots of asking, confused looks, wandering, and gazing expectantly at street signs, we knew we were in the right spot. But there was no music. It was then that Drew made an unfortunate observation. Low and behold, right where it should be was Alexander Plat Jazz Club. Closed.

I have a feeling it isn't open...

Although we were bummed there would be no music, we didn't let our night end on a bad note (pun intended). Derek had heard of a gelatoria (number three on my list of top gelatorias to check out) called Giolitti. We caught the bus and in no time were enjoying the best gelato I have had yet! Dark chocolate, Raspberry, and blackberry. Angels sang!

Gelato+Dresses= Fancy gelato?

Worth all the adventure

The night was saved!
